Nine goals conceded, five scored, and Cetate Deva went through anyway: in the 2015 promotion play-off, coming off the back of the Liga IV Hunedoara title, the club beat Gilortul Târgu Cărbunești 9-5 on aggregate to reach Liga III.
The step up to Liga III did not last. Cetate Deva, now registered as CSM Deva, is back in Liga IV Hunedoara for the 2025-26 season. Its one venture into the Cupa României worth remembering came in 2016-17, when a Round of 16 draw sent it up against Gaz Metan Mediaș and ended 1-7.
Home games are played at Stadionul Cetate, which holds 4,000, in white and blue. Supporters know the team as the Devenii or the Cetățenii, and the fixture that still matters most locally is against Corvinul Hunedoara, played as the derby-ul județean, the county derby.
