Cema Nasau has spent her career chasing goals for a side that spends more time waiting between tournaments than playing in them. Her name still anchors a squad now captained by Jotivini Tabua.

The gaps say as much as the games. Fiji went missing from Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) competition for long stretches between 1986 and 2014, years in which the programme simply did not field a team. What changed it was the appointment of American coach Lisa Cole in 2021, who took a side with little recent tournament pedigree to a runners-up finish at the 2022 OFC Women's Nations Cup. Singaporean coach Angeline Chua followed, and under her the team took a silver medal at the 2023 Pacific Games in the same city they call home, Suva. Nicola Demaine, another American, has held the post since 2026.

Home games are shared between HFC Bank Stadium, which holds 15,446, and Govind Park in Ba, used for some of the more recent qualifiers. Trina Davis, Fiji's first professional female footballer, marked her debut in 2018 with a hat-trick, the kind of entrance that gets remembered long after the scoreline fades from the record.

New Zealand sits across from Fiji as the team they measure themselves against most often, without either side needing a name for it. The Pacific Games silver and the two runners-up finishes in the Nations Cup mark how far the programme has come since its lean years. A place at the FIFA Women's World Cup, or at the Olympic football tournament, is still what the Kulas have not managed.
