Kariobangi Sharks

Kariobangi Sharks have no single ground to call their own. Depending on the fixture, they turn up at Police Stadium, the Kasarani Annex, Nairobi City Stadium or Dandora Stadium, moving around Nairobi as availability and the size of the occasion dictate rather than settling anywhere.

The club traces back to a basketball court in the Kariobangi estate, where Nick Mwendwa began tracking young players before registering the side as Kariobangi Sportive in 2000 and later renaming it Sharks. Locally the nickname stuck as Wapakaji , and the club still plays in yellow and green.

William Muluya took charge through that spell and remains the club's most successful coach, with four trophies to his name. In 2019 the club went further still, winning the SportPesa Cup in Dar es Salaam and then beating Everton on penalties in a SportPesa Trophy tie at Kasarani.

Across the city, Mathare United provide the fixture that matters most, the so-called Slum Derby between two clubs built out of Nairobi's informal settlements. Sharks have leaned increasingly on players who came through their own academy: Stanley Wilson left for Sweden's AIK in August 2024 in a deal worth around $200,000, and Humphrey Aroko, promoted from the youth ranks in 2022, has since had a trial at the same club.
