Lippstadt 08

In the autumn of 2013, 3,500 people packed into Lippstadt to watch their club take on Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal, a tie the Oberliga side had earned by reaching the semi-final of the regional cup the previous season. The scoreline ran away from them, 1-6.

SV Lippstadt 08 exists in its current form because two older clubs, Borussia Lippstadt and Lippstädter SV Teutonia, merged in 1997 to avoid going under. Both had been founded in March 1908, which is where the "08" in the name comes from, and the merger bought the combined club another decade before trouble returned: a financial collapse in 2008, followed by a 2011 restructuring that forced the sale of the historic clubhouse just to clear the debts.

What came after was two promotions built on the same route. Lippstadt won the Westfalenliga in 2012 and then the Oberliga Westfalen twice, in 2013 and 2018, each title carrying them up into the Regionalliga West. Daniel Farke passed through the club three times as a player before managing it, years before Norwich City and then Leeds United made his name known outside German football. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge came up through the youth ranks at Borussia Lippstadt and later returned as club president.

Matches against SC Wiedenbrück 2000 carry the sharpest edge locally. Lippstadt held their place in the Regionalliga West from 2018 through to 2024.
