Luneburger SK Hansa

Lüneburger SK Hansa exists because its predecessor did not survive. When the original Lüneburger SK went insolvent, the football departments of that club and of Lüneburger SV were folded into a single new entity on 1 March 2008, first registered as FC Hansa Lüneburg. Three years later it took the name it carries now, keeping the old Spatzen nickname alive in spirit even as a new one, LSK, took over in speech around the ground.

The old Lüneburger SK had reached the Regionalliga Nord, then the third tier, and stayed there until 2001, so the merger was not a fresh start from nothing but a rebuilding on top of a fall. LSK's own best season came in 2013/14, when the club won the Oberliga Niedersachsen and went back up to the Regionalliga Nord, retracing in the fifth tier what its predecessor had once done a level higher. A Niedersachsenpokal final followed in 2016/17, lost, and in 2024/25 came a further step down the pyramid table, the Landesliga Lüneburg title.

The club has twice earned a place in the DFB-Pokal, in 2008/09 and again in 2017/18, brief appearances on a stage far bigger than the Sportanlage Sülzwiesen, where 4,000 people can watch on an ordinary weekend. More durable has been its role as a producing club: players such as Kwasi Okyere Wriedt and Leon Packheiser moved on from Lüneburg to Eintracht Braunschweig, continuing a path first worn by Patrick Owomoyela, who left the old Lüneburger SK for Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen and Hamburg.

Matches against SV Atlas Delmenhorst are still billed locally as the Klassiker, a rivalry that predates the 2008 refounding and outlasted the insolvency that made LSK necessary in the first place.
