Mgarr Women

The breakthrough came early, with the domestic double of league and knockout in 2013–14, but it took more than a decade to build on it. That came in 2024–25 with a first Assikura Women's Knock-Out, beating Hibernians 2–0 in the final, and then in 2025–26 with a first league title, an unbeaten campaign of 17 wins and three draws. The Jubilee Cup followed in the same season.

Haley Bugeja was the name that carried the club's reputation abroad. She made her senior debut at 14 in 2018, scored 52 goals in 29 appearances, and was named league Player of the Year in successive seasons before Sassuolo, Orlando Pride and Inter Milan took her on, by which point she was already a fixture for the Malta national team. Brenda Borg stayed longer: seven years at the club and 79 caps for Malta before she left for Valletta in 2026.

Matches against Sirens carry the weight of what locals call the Derby of the North, a fixture sharpened by Mellieħa's involvement in the same rivalry; in the women's game, it is Swieqi United who test Mġarr hardest.
