OC Sporting

OC Sporting FC took its place in the USL W League for the first time in 2025, entering a summer competition built for short seasons and amateur eligibility rather than a title chase. The Irvine club treats the league as a step rather than a destination: the format exists largely to give college and pre-professional players a competitive platform outside their school calendars, and that has shaped who wears the shirt.

The team grew out of the Ryan Lemmon Foundation, a youth soccer organisation in Orange County dating back to 1995, which set up OC Sporting as its own department in 2022. That gap of nearly three decades between the foundation's founding and the club's creation says something about the project: this was not a startup chasing a league slot but an established youth setup deciding, eventually, to field a senior women's side under its own name.

Matches are played at University High School in Irvine, a school ground rather than a stadium built for spectators, in keeping with a club still finding its level. The colours are blue and white, carried even into how the squad is split for training and lower-tier fixtures, with rosters labelled OC Sporting FC Blue and OC Sporting FC White.

There is no confusing OC Sporting with the older, better-known Orange County SC, the men's club founded in 1998 that plays in a different league entirely; the two share a region but nothing else. OC Sporting FC has no trophies to point to, and the format it plays in was never built to hand any out.

The name most associated with the club remains that of Ryan Lemmon himself, the foundation's namesake, whose youth programme is the reason a women's team wearing OC Sporting's colours exists in Irvine at all.
