Francisco Ortega

Francisco Ortega came through the Vélez Sarsfield academy, which he joined in 2013, and made his senior bow for the club in 2017 as a substitute in a 3–0 win over Olimpo. He went on to make more than 150 appearances for Vélez before Olympiacos signed him in August 2023 for a fee of around €4.5 million.

He started the 2023–24 UEFA Europa Conference League final, a 1–0 win over Fiorentina, having made 13 appearances in that European campaign. He added the 2024 Greek Super Cup, the 2024–25 Greek Super League title and the 2024–25 Greek Cup to his collection before returning to Argentina in August 2026, when River Plate paid €5 million for him and signed him until the end of 2030.

Ortega's international career has so far stayed at youth and underage level. He played for Argentina's under-20 side at both the 2019 South American U-20 Championship and the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, and he was part of the Argentine squad at the delayed Tokyo Olympics, where he was sent off in the match against Australia. A first senior call-up came in November 2023 for World Cup qualifying fixtures.
