About the player
Hugo Javier Benítez came through the youth system at Cerro Porteño before moving on without a senior appearance for the club. His breakthrough came at Sportivo Ameliano, where he settled into the first team and helped the side win the Copa Paraguay and the Supercopa Paraguay in 2022.
In January 2024 he moved on loan to Club Olimpia. He made more than twenty official appearances there and was part of the squad that won the Clausura 2024 title. Olimpia's interest in him went beyond the loan spell: that December the club opened talks to buy a share of his transfer rights, with the young forward Aarón Páez included in the discussions.
The move never turned into a permanent transfer, and when the loan ended in July 2025 he returned to Sportivo Ameliano, the club where he had made his name. He is now back working under the shirt he wore before his spell in the capital, with a Clausura winner's medal and two domestic cups to show for the years in between.
