Eight Djibouti Premier League titles tell only part of the story; the run that mattered came between 2009 and 2018, when ASAS Djibouti Télécom won the championship six times in seven seasons and turned Ali Sabieh, a town on the road to the Ethiopian border, into the country's football capital. The club, whose full name still carries the sponsorship of Djibouti Télécom, plays under the nickname Les Assajogs, a reference to the Issa clan of the Ali Sabieh region rather than to anything invented for a badge. It has taken the Djibouti Cup three times, the most recent in 2017–18 against Université de Djibouti, and the Djibouti Super Cup four times, beating AS Arta/Solar7 for the trophy in 2022.

That fixture against Arta carries more weight than any other on the calendar. The two clubs are treated as arch-rivals in regional football writing, and their meetings are billed locally as "match choc" — a contest sharpened by how close the two towns sit to one another. FC Dikhil provides the other recurring test, on the pitch and in the Super Cup final of 2017.

Continental football has been less forgiving. ASAS has gone out at the group or two-legged stage in four different CAF competitions since 2018, most heavily against Young Africans SC in 2023–24, when a 5–1 first-leg defeat settled the tie before the return. The current squad still leans on Gabriel Dadzie, a Ghanaian striker who arrived in 2022 from Arta/Solar7 of all places and went on to switch his international allegiance to Djibouti, and on goalkeeper Innocent Mbonihankuye between the posts. Stade du Ville holds the club's league matches now, with room for 20,000 inside it.
