Kiyovu Sports

Kigali runs on football rivalries, and in Nyamirambo, on the city's western edge, that means Kiyovu Sports. The club took shape there in 1964, in the same neighbourhood that gave the current ground its old name, Stade Régional de Nyamirambo, long before it was rebuilt and renamed Kigali Pelé Stadium.

Supporters still call the team Urucaca, though matchday reports these days lean on "Green and White Army," a nod to the kit the club has carried through its long-running duels with Rayon Sports — a fixture with no official derby name attached to it, but one that has shaped Kiyovu's identity as much as any trophy.

And there have been trophies. Kiyovu took the Rwanda National Football League title seven times, a run stretched from 1968 to 1993, with the Rwandan Cup added twice along the way. The honours board went quiet for years after that before the club picked up the Made in Rwanda Cup in 2022 and, this year, the Rwandan Super Cup.

Kigali Pelé Stadium now holds 22,000, and on the nights Kiyovu and Rayon Sports share it, that capacity feels like the whole city has turned out for Nyamirambo's club.
