Musanze

Musanze compete in the Rwanda National League, drawing their strongest crowds whenever Gicumbi FC come to the Northern Province, a fixture with enough edge that a 2019 meeting between the two was stopped for twelve minutes after trouble among the fans. The rivalry outweighs anything Musanze have won on the pitch: the club has never taken the league title or the Rwandan Cup, its best run in the cup competition stopping at the quarter-finals in 2014.

The Sangalo kit deal that clothes the team also carries the club's history, dating its founding to 2004, well before Musanze had established itself in the top flight by the 2012–13 season. Home games are played at the Ubworoherane Football Stadium, which holds 4,000, in front of supporters who know the team by its nickname, Ingagi Nkuru — the Great Gorilla, borrowed from the mountain gorillas of the nearby Volcanoes National Park and stitched onto the red-and-white kit.

Squads have turned over quickly in recent seasons: a Ghanaian striker for a year, a Burundian forward for the current one. The player who has stayed longest in supporters' memory is Shafiq Bakaki, the Ugandan defender who arrived in 2023 and was named to the league's Team of the Year before leaving in 2024 — the closest thing to individual distinction the club has produced of late, in a squad still built more on turnover than on time served.
