Since 2020 the city has had a second club wearing its name into the National League and, eventually, the top flight. Kun Khalifat FC was founded that year by Michael Amaefula, who took the chairmanship: promotion to the Nigeria National League came in 2024, and by 2025 the club was already playing in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Before the move to Dan Anyiam Stadium in early 2025, the club was based at the Onwubike International Soccer Stadium in Ngor-Okpala. Dan Anyiam holds around 12,000, and it was there, in the 2025/2026 season, that Kun Khalifat beat Enyimba 1–0, ending the older club's unbeaten start.

The one trophy on record is the Abia Governor's NALCOMA Pre-Season Tournament, won on penalties against Abia Comets FC in November 2024 — a regional friendly competition, not a league or cup title, but the club's first. The bigger achievement remains the climb itself, overseen on the pitch by head coach Obinna Uzoho, who took the team up from the National League.

The club's sporting director carries more history than anyone else at Kun Khalifat.
