The record still stands: eight Norwegian Cup wins, taken between 1947 and 1974. The league title came only once, in 1966.

Skeid grew out of Kristiania Ballklub, founded on 1 January 1915. Ten years later it merged with the skiing and football club Frem 1914, and the football side settled a compromise still visible today: red shirts and blue shorts from Kristiania Ballklub, while the crest and the winter sports sections carry Frem's black and yellow.

The nickname Oksene, the Bulls, dates from the same mid-century spell that built the cup record, when players such as Trygve Bornø came through the side — 43 caps for Norway and Player of the Year in 1969.

In 2021, a bequest of some 30 million kroner from a supporter known as Porno-Hagen went some way toward steadying the finances. Matches with Lyn are still billed as the Oslo derby, though in recent years that fixture has mattered less than survival itself: relegation from the 1.
