Sparkassen-Eisdom

The Sparkassen-Eisdom is defined by the geography of the Elbe floodplain and the suddenness of its construction. It stands in Halle (Saale) as a direct consequence of the 2013 waters that destroyed the original Eissporthalle Halle. The building does not pretend to be permanent; it was conceived as an interim solution to keep the Saale Bulls playing in the Oberliga Nord while a proper replacement was designed.

The ground is currently a place of transition. The temporary ice tent that filled the site since 2014 has been replaced by a permanent facility following a major expansion completed in late 2025. The surface is refrigerated artificial ice, covering a standard 1,800 m² sheet. Matches are often sold out.

There is a quiet tension in the design. The expansion, executed by GP Günter Papenburg AG, added 1,800 seats without altering the fundamental character of the venue. The Saale Bulls have played on this surface since the first official game in September 2014, a date that marks the beginning of the interim era rather than the end of it.
