The National League stands as the premier volleyball competition in Kazakhstan. Organised by the Volleyball Federation of Kazakhstan, the tournament sits at the top of the domestic pyramid, positioned above the Higher League. It traces its origins to the 1992/1993 season, established in the wake of the Soviet Union’s dissolution to succeed regional championships. Since its inception, the competition has crowned a national champion annually, with Azamat Almaty securing the inaugural title in 1993.
The structure for the 2025/2026 season features eight teams engaging in a round-robin format. Each side plays 28 regular-season matches before the campaign moves into knockout stages. These playoffs comprise quarterfinals, semifinals, and a final series to decide the titleholder. The current champions are Zhayyk from Atyrau, who claimed the 2024/2025 crown. Zhetisu currently leads the ongoing playoff standings.
Historical dominance has belonged to Almaty-based institutions. A single lineage, competing under various names including Azamat and Rakat, accumulated ten titles between 1993 and 2007. A separate Almaty club subsequently won six consecutive championships from 2008 to 2013. Combined, these entities hold sixteen titles. Atyrau has won five titles, while Pavlodar secured one in 2022/2023. The league retains a direct lineage to Soviet-era structures and qualifies participants for the AVC Men's Club Championship.
Rebranding as the National League occurred gradually, with references appearing as early as 2014, though the exact date of the formal change remains unclear. Movement between the top tier and the second division happens, but specific promotion and relegation regulations are not publicly documented. The competition involves clubs such as Aktobe, Burevestnik Almaty, Esil Petropavlovsk, and Ushkyn Kokshetau alongside the established powers.
