The CEV Champions League stands as the premier continental club competition in men's volleyball. Founded in 1959 by the European Volleyball Confederation, it began under the name CEV European Champions Cup before adopting its current title. The tournament operates at the highest level of European club volleyball, sitting above the CEV Cup and the CEV Challenge Cup. Qualification relies on domestic league standings and national federation rankings, with no promotion or relegation between the tiers.
The structure features 20 teams divided into five groups of four during the main League Round. Each team plays a double round-robin schedule, facing opponents both home and away. The top five group winners and the three best runners-up progress to the quarterfinals. These knockout stages, along with the semifinals, are contested over two legs. The campaign concludes with a single-match final, traditionally staged in May.
Historical dominance is concentrated among a handful of clubs. CSKA Moscow holds the record with 13 titles, leading a group that includes Zenit Kazan with six wins and Modena Volley alongside Sisley Treviso, each with five. The reigning champion for the 2023–24 season is Itas Trentino, who secured victory against Jastrzębski Węgiel in Antalya. While the men's format currently utilises two-legged ties, the women's competition has seen variations including a Final Four style event.
The competition aggregates the finest clubs from across the continent, governed exclusively by the CEV rather than individual national federations. Past sponsorship periods have featured names such as Indesit and DenizBank, reflecting the tournament's commercial evolution alongside its sporting prestige.
