Napredak

The 2025 title in Odžak came with a name attached: HOK Magic Ice Domaljevac, beaten in the playoff final for a championship that, until that spring, belonged to the past. Domaljevac sits close enough to Odžak that the two names carry weight beyond the standings, and finishing above them again gave the crowd at Napredak something rarer than a trophy — a settled score.

The club traces back to September 1973, but the version that plays now grew out of the Bosnian War rather than survived it. Bosnian Croats rebuilt Napredak in 1997 and entered it into the Croatian Herzeg-Bosnia First League before the club joined the Volleyball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2001, a move that folded a wartime side back into a single national structure. That season ended with the first Bosnian championship, in 2001-02, followed by a second in 2006-07 and then a long wait.

The pandemic emptied the calendar and Napredak stopped competing altogether, coming back only in 2022 from the second division. What followed under Dragan Božić took three years: promotion, then the 2024-25 title against Domaljevac, then the Federation Cup, then a place in the CEV Champions League for 2025-2026 — a jump few second-division sides make in one climb. President Darko Kasap and sports director Franjo Pirkl have overseen that rise, though the credit locally goes as much to the group of players who stayed through the lean years as to the results themselves.

Odžak has sent five coaches on to national teams across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and the former Yugoslavia, a fact the town treats as proof that the club has always produced more than it has been given credit for. The players fill a hall of 804 seats, the SD SŠC Pere Zečevića on Džemala Bijedića street, opened in 2007, where the Uragan group has kept its name and its noise through relegation, absence and the run back to the top of the table.
