The Eredivisie Women stands as the premier volleyball competition in the Netherlands, overseen by the Dutch Volleyball Federation (Nevobo). Established in 1947, the league operates with a structure designed to balance professional competition with youth development. A defining characteristic of the tournament is the presence of Talentteam Papendal, a national squad that competes against established clubs within the same division.

The season begins with a regular phase, after which the field splits into two groups: the A-Poule for championship contenders and the B-Poule for lower standings. Teams in the A-Poule advance to a playoff stage, culminating in a best-of-five final series to crown the national champion. This format ensures that the most successful sides face off in a decisive conclusion to the campaign.

Historical dominance in the Eredivisie has been shared between several powerhouse clubs. Celebes Den Haag holds the all-time record with eleven titles, while VC Boemerang follows with eight. In recent years, Sliedrecht Sport has asserted its strength, securing eight championships between 2012 and 2022. VC Sneek has also emerged as a formidable force, claiming four titles in quick succession, including the most recent 2025 championship. The intense rivalry between Sliedrecht Sport and VC Sneek often defines the latter stages of the competition.

The league has undergone various structural changes over the decades, previously operating under the names A-League and DELA-League. Recent reforms introduced the Superdivisie as a second tier, creating a buffer between the top flight and the amateur Topdivisie.
