NB I Women (Hungary) 2022/23

The TippmixPro Női Röplabda NB I Extraliga serves as the premier women’s volleyball competition in Hungary. Officially designated as the Nemzeti Bajnokság I, the league represents the highest level of domestic play. It operates under the authority of the Magyar Röplabda Szövetség (MRSZ), the national federation established in 1946. The tournament has existed since 1947, marking nearly eight decades of continuous professional sport.

The season follows a structured progression beginning with a round-robin regular season. Eight clubs participate in this phase, competing to secure a position within the upper half of the standings. The format provides a significant advantage to the top four finishers, who bypass the initial knockout stages to advance directly to the semifinals. Those placed fifth through eighth engage in a best-of-3 quarterfinal series to determine the remaining finalists. The championship decider is a best-of-5 series, granting the higher-seeded side home-court advantage throughout the decisive encounters.

Historical dominance in the league rests with NIM SE, which holds eleven titles. Újpesti Dózsa follows closely with ten championships. Recent success has been claimed by Vasas Óbuda, who secured their third consecutive title in the 2023–2024 campaign. The club also maintains the record for the longest unbeaten streak in the competition’s history.

The structure includes a qualification round for promotion and relegation. Teams finishing at the bottom of the NB I table face opponents from the second division, NB I/B. Success in these matches allows for advancement to the top tier, subject to licensing approval from the MRSZ committee. While the league is frequently branded as the Extraliga due to sponsorship agreements, its administrative identity remains the Nemzeti Bajnokság I. This distinction separates it from the Magyar Kupa, a separate annual knockout tournament organized by the same federation.
