Ujpest Women

The lilac shirts have stood out in Hungarian volleyball halls since 1948, when the section formed inside Újpesti TE, the multi-sport club founded in Budapest in 1885.

The women's team has spent its history in the shadow of stronger sides in the top flight, Vasas and Békéscsaba among them. That gap has not stopped Lilák from staying a fixture in the Extraliga Women and the Hungarian Cup, even if no one has ever put a name to it.

The club competes as Lilák, a nickname tied to its lilac and white colours, and that identity has outlasted every change of sponsor name above it. Games are played at Tungsram Csarnok on Megyeri út, a hall that seats around 500, small enough that the crowd noise carries onto the court and the away side hears every point.
