Elitserien (Sweden) 2026/27

Elitserien i volleyboll för herrar stands as the premier professional volleyball league in Sweden. Originating in 1962 as the Swedish Championship, the competition adopted the Elitserien name for the 1962–1963 season. It occupies the apex of the national volleyball pyramid, overseen by the Swedish Volleyball Federation.

The tournament structure features a double round-robin regular season involving 11 teams. The top eight sides progress to the playoffs, known as SM-slutspel. These knockout series are contested in a best-of-five format to determine the Swedish Champion. A notable scoring reform introduced in the 2008–2009 season established a 3-2-1 point system to encourage competitive matches.

Lidingö SK holds the record for the most titles, claiming 18 championships. This includes a streak of 16 consecutive wins between 1966 and 1981. Hylte/Halmstad VBK has secured seven titles and currently holds the 2023–2024 championship. The league winner earns a place in European competitions via the CEV Champions League.

Movement between divisions relies on a qualification system rather than automatic promotion or relegation. Teams finishing low in Elitserien enter a negative qualification against top clubs from Division 1. The victor of this series retains their top-flight status, while the loser faces relegation. Similarly, Division 1 teams must obtain an elite license and win a qualification tournament to ascend to Elitserien.

Clubs such as Falkoping, Floby, Habo, Hasthagen, Hylte/Halmstad VBK, and Lunds participate in the current campaign. The league serves as the primary showcase for Swedish volleyball, distinct from the separate Svenska Cupen knockout tournament.
