Meppen secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Alemannia Aachen at the Tivoli stadium on Saturday afternoon. The third-placed visitors took all three points in the 3. Liga regular season, extending their winning start to the campaign. Aachen, meanwhile, suffered their second defeat of the season.
Meppen struck early, with T. Deters finding the net in the ninth minute. C. Akono doubled the advantage just two minutes later, putting the visitors in complete control. N. Nadj added a third shortly before half-time, converting in the 43rd minute after receiving a yellow card himself earlier in the half.
Aachen had more possession at 55 per cent but lacked the cutting edge. They registered three shots on target from nine attempts, while Meppen were more clinical with six shots on target producing three goals. The visitors also won more corners, five to four, and created more chances overall.
Both managers made changes as the match progressed. Meppen brought on T. Missner in the 56th minute, while Aachen introduced K. Koscierski and D. Starodid together in the 70th minute. Akono and Deters were both replaced in the 72nd minute, suggesting the visitors were managing their lead carefully.
The result moves Meppen further clear in fourth place with six points from three matches. Aachen remain tenth with four points, having won one, drawn one and lost one game so far. The visitors have now gone unbeaten in their last three league fixtures, while the hosts have lost two of their past three.
