NXT secured a 3:2 victory against Searing United in the Challenger Pro League's Regular Season round two on Saturday. The home side survived a turbulent afternoon that saw both teams reduced to ten men, with the result lifting them to the top of the table. They move six points clear after two matches.
J. Van Britsom opened the scoring in the sixth minute, giving NXT an early advantage. Searing United had to work for their equaliser after M. Scarpinati was sent off for the hosts in the twenty-second minute following a second yellow card. A. H. Kamara levelled in the fifty-fifth minute after N. Amengai had given the visitors the lead in the fiftieth.
By then the match had opened up considerably. M. Muland, who had seen a penalty saved just before half-time, dragged Searing United back into contention. He got over the line in the eighty-seventh minute before adding a second in stoppage time to complete the turnaround. The support of the fans could be called devoted, but the fact is that the visitors took all three points from a game they did not control for long periods.
The statistics tell part of the story. NXT dominated possession at 69 per cent and registered 116 attacks compared to 61 for the visitors. They had more free kicks and throw-ins, reflecting their territorial advantage. Yet the chances went begging at times — a missed penalty and a flurry of late goals suggest the match was decided in moments rather than sustained pressure.
Both sides made changes in the second half, with NXT bringing on Y. Lawson in the thirty-first minute and Searing United responding with three substitutions around the hour mark. A. Garcia was then dismissed for the visitors in the eighty-second minute, leaving the game open for Muland's late double.
NXT now sit three points ahead of second place with two wins from two matches. Searing United remain in fourteenth after three games, having won only once and drawing once. The gap between the two sides in the table looks wider after this result.
