Den Bosch and Almere City played out a 1-1 draw in the opening fixture of the Eerste Divisie season on Saturday. The result leaves both sides with one point after their first match of the campaign.
The breakthrough came in the sixtieth minute when I. Boumassaoudi found the net for the hosts. Three minutes later, F. Druijf answered for Almere City, and the game settled into a pattern neither side could break. By then, substitutions were already reshaping both teams.
Den Bosch had the edge in attacks with 105 compared to 93 for the visitors. Shots tell a similar story — four on target each, with Almere City registering slightly more off target attempts. The visitors held 51 per cent possession while the hosts managed 49.
And here's the thing about the table situation. Almere City sit fifth with ten points from three wins and one defeat, while Den Bosch occupy fifteenth place with just four points from one victory and three losses. The contrast in form going into this match was noticeable.
A yellow card for B. Pennock in the eighty-ninth minute was the only booking of consequence. Both sides made multiple changes, with Den Bosch bringing on J. Van Heertum and K. Felida among others, while Almere City introduced E. van de Blaak and M. Dors.
The draw does little to shift the hierarchy between these two sides. Almere City remain well clear of the mid-table pack, while Den Bosch have work to do to climb out of the lower reaches.
