Kashiwa Reysol 2:1 University of Senshu
Kashiwa Reysol saw off University of Senshu 2:1 in the Emperor's Cup second round on 26 August. The hosts took the lead through Y. Segawa in the 33rd minute before K. Chonan levelled just before the break. K. Okada then struck in the 56th minute to secure the victory.
Segawa opened the scoring after 33 minutes, catching the visitors off guard. University of Senshu responded well and found an equaliser with a goal from Chonan in the 45th minute plus one. The momentum shifted after the interval when Okada broke the deadlock again to put Kashiwa in control.
The result extends Kashiwa's recent good run, which includes four wins in their last five league outings. They beat V-Varen Nagasaki 4:2, Tokyo Verdy 3:1 and Mito Hollyhock 2:1 before a goalless draw with JEF United Chiba. University of Senshu came into the tie on the back of a 2:1 victory over Tsukuba University on 19 August.
Kashiwa had dropped points against Kyoto Sanga in their previous league meeting, losing 1:0, but bounced back strongly. The cup victory means they advance to the next stage of the competition. University of Senshu's campaign ends here despite their solid showing.
