Match Report
Stal Mielec ran riot against Polonia Bytom with a 5-2 victory in the First League's fourth round of the regular season on Saturday. The hosts took an early lead through T. Gmur's goal in the second minute and never looked back. To be fair, Polonia never quite found their footing after that opening salvo.
K. Andrzejczak doubled the advantage before the break with a well-taken effort in the twenty-second minute. K. Getinger added a penalty just before half-time, and K. Cybulski made it four by the forty-ninth minute. Stal had the game won inside twenty minutes, though Polonia pulled one back through K. Cybulski in the sixty-fifth.
The visitors showed more energy in possession, controlling 55 per cent of the ball despite trailing. D. Rumin made it five for the hosts in the seventy-ninth minute before M. Wyparlo added a late consolation for Polonia in the ninety-first. By then, the outcome was never really in doubt.
Polonia registered more attacks with 100 compared to Stal's 83, and had slightly more shots on target with six to seven. Yet the hosts were more clinical, converting their chances while Polonia found no answer to the early pressure. Stal's defensive organisation held firm despite conceding two.
The result leaves Stal Mielec in tenth place with nine points from seven games, while Polonia sit fifteenth on six points after six matches. And here's the thing — this was a statement performance from the hosts who needed the points badly. Stal saw it out comfortably after taking control early on.
