About the player
Vantaa-born, he came up through Tikkurilan Palloseura and Korson Palloseura before spells at FC Legirus Inter and a return to TiPS, then joined IF Gnistan, where the club won the Kakkonen Group B in 2019. A free transfer took him to FC Haka in January 2021, where he stayed for three seasons.
Hakala signed for KuPS as a free agent, agreeing a two-year contract. Through the 2024 season he served as backup to Taneli Hämäläinen, making five Veikkausliiga appearances without keeping a clean sheet. Even so, he was part of the squad that won both the 2024 Veikkausliiga title and the Finnish Cup.
In December 2025, FC Lahti announced his signing on a free transfer, effective from the following January, with a contract running to the end of 2027. Head coach Gonçalo Pereira pointed to Hakala's experience and mobility, while goalkeeping coach Mikko Känkänen praised his potential and technical maturity. Hakala himself said his aim at the new club was to fight for playing time and keep developing.
He has represented Finland at youth level, including a call-up to the under-21 training camp in December 2021, but has yet to earn a senior cap.
