About the player
Soumare is the first player from the FIFA academy in Nouakchott — also known as the Académie de Football Nouakchott — to sign for a European club. That transfer came on 23 July 2025, when Alverca took the defensive midfielder on a free.
He was placed with the reserve side, Alverca B, for the 2025/26 season, where he made one appearance in the Campeonato de Portugal. He was then promoted to the first-team squad for the Liga Portugal campaign.
His senior international debut had already come by then. On 22 December 2024 he played for Mauritania against Mali in the second round of the African Nations Championship, a match Mauritania won 1-0. His second cap followed almost eleven months later, on 15 November 2025, in a friendly against Libya that ended in a 1-0 defeat. He has yet to score for the senior side.
Before that he came through the Mauritania under-20 setup, playing at the 2023 COTIF Tournament in Spain and in friendlies the following year.
