Alessandro Schöpf

Schöpf was 22 when he came on against Ukraine at UEFA Euro 2016 and scored — his first tournament goal for Austria. Later that year Tyrol named him its Sportsman of the Year.

He learned the game in the Bayern Munich academy and spent two seasons with the second team, winning the Regionalliga Bayern in 2013–14. A first-team contract followed in November 2013, and he was part of the squad that took the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double, though he never played a senior match for the club. The move to Nürnberg in 2014, for €400,000, gave him the games he needed; two years later Schalke 04 paid €5 million for him.

When his contract expired in 2021 he left on a free transfer for Arminia Bielefeld, and in August 2022 he crossed to Major League Soccer with Vancouver Whitecaps FC, signed through Targeted Allocation Money. He won the Canadian Championship there twice, in 2023 and 2024. His contract ran out that December and the club option for 2025 went unused.

He returned to Austria with Wolfsberger AC in February 2025, again as a free agent, and moved on to LASK in May 2026 on a deal to June 2028.

Since his senior debut in 2016 he has won 35 caps and scored six, played at Euro 2020 as well as Euro 2016, and been named in the squad for the 2026 World Cup.
