August Nils Tomas Wängberg

Wängberg was born in Vienna but built his career in Swedish football, starting out at Qviding FIF before a brief detour to the United States, where he spent the second half of 2013 playing for San Diego State University's Aztecs. He returned to Qviding for two more seasons, had a short spell at Syrianska FC in 2016 that ended with his contract mutually terminated after five months, then went straight back to Qviding until 2017.

His move to GAIS that August, on a free transfer, marked the start of a significant chapter of his career. He debuted against Öster in a 2–0 defeat, coming on in the 71st minute, and has since become one of the club's key players. The 2022 season brought the Ettan Södra title and promotion to Superettan, followed by a second-place finish there in 2023. GAIS then reached Allsvenskan and, in 2025, finished third, earning the club's "Lilla Silver" and a place in the UEFA Conference League. Wängberg capped that campaign by winning the Domarnas pris as Allsvenskan's best player.

Supporters have recognised him twice over with both the Herbert Lundgren-trofén and the Hedersmakrillen, in 2019 and again in 2024. That standing did not spare him a difficult run in 2025: from May, he was left out of the starting eleven for 38 consecutive matches, a stretch put down to form rather than injury. He plays right-footed and wears the number 6 shirt for GAIS.
