Bastien Meupiou

Nine minutes into his first game of professional football, Bastien Meupiyou was sent off. The debut came for FC Nantes against Marseille in Ligue 1 on 1 September 2023, and the red card made him the second youngest player ever dismissed in the competition.

He had arrived at Nantes in 2019, after spells in the Paris FC academy and at Montfermeil, and worked his way through the club's U19 side and the B-team in Championnat National 3. Across those squads and the senior team he made 37 appearances without scoring.

Wolverhampton Wanderers paid a reported £4.2 million for him in August 2024 and handed him a five-year contract. The move never produced a senior appearance. A knee injury picked up around the turn of that year interrupted his integration, and his football came in Premier League 2 and the Premier League U21 Cup — eleven matches, 883 minutes.

In July 2025 he joined Alverca permanently for a fee estimated at under €1 million, with Wolves keeping a buy-back clause and half of any future sale. In Portugal the playing time arrived: 31 competitive matches across the 2025–26 season, thirty of them in Liga Portugal, plus one in the Taça da Liga.

He won 15 caps and scored twice for the U17s, and in 2023 finished runner-up with them at both the UEFA European Under-17 Championship and the FIFA U-17 World Cup. He has also played for the U16s and, since 2023, the U18s, for whom he has scored once in seven appearances.
