Villa María is not a place associated with Argentine football academies at the top level, but it is where Gerónimo Heredia began, coming through Alumni before Belgrano picked him up. He signed his first professional contract there in February 2024, a step that turned a academy prospect into a squad player with senior minutes to his name — 49 appearances and a goal by the time his spell in Córdoba was done.

One of those appearances came against opposition he would later join. In 2024, Heredia featured for Belgrano in the Copa Sudamericana against Delfín SC, the Ecuadorian club now fielding him on loan. He arrived there in February 2026 on an undisclosed fee, and has since made 24 appearances in Delfín colours.

The move to Ecuador came alongside recognition at international level, with call-ups to Argentina's under-20 and under-23 squads marking him out among his age group at home.
