About the player
João Carlos made his senior debut for Criciúma on 22 January 2020, in a Campeonato Catarinense win over Concórdia, and scored his first goal for the club four days later against Juventus Jaraguá. He had progressed through the club's youth ranks having previously trained at Brusque and Vasco da Gama.
His path since has run through two loan spells. In 2022 he joined Marcílio Dias, making 16 appearances and scoring once in Série D while helping the side win the Copa Santa Catarina that year. In August 2024 he moved on loan to Ituano, where he played 11 matches in Série B and scored a goal before the deal ended on 31 December 2024 and he returned to Criciúma.
Back at Criciúma, João Carlos renewed his contract with the club in January 2024. He has been part of Campeonato Catarinense-winning squads in 2023 and 2024, and featured in Criciúma's Recopa Catarinense triumphs in 2024 and 2026. In the 2024 Recopa Catarinense final, a 2–0 win over Marcílio Dias, he was credited with a goal in the competition.
A forward who stands just 168cm, he plays right-footed and now wears number 21 for Criciúma, the club that has shaped his entire senior career to date.
