About the player
Nagasaki does not come up often in Japanese football, and Kentaro Kakoi's route out of it went through university rather than a youth academy fast-track: after Ohzu High School he spent four years at Momoyama Gakuin University, where he won bronze with the Japan squad at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan.
FC Tokyo brought him into professional football in 2014, but he never made a first-team league appearance there. Cerezo Osaka signed him in 2017, and he stayed three years without a single league appearance for the first team, kept out by Kim Jin-hyeon.
He joined Kyoto Sanga in July 2024 on another free transfer, though first-team opportunities there have so far been scarce, with a single league appearance to his name at the club so far.
