Lucas Venneboer of Hesselink

Football runs in the family for Lucas Vennegoor of Hesselink, son of former Celtic and Netherlands striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. He started out at Quick '20 in his hometown of Oldenzaal before joining the FC Twente youth setup, later progressing through the FC Twente-Heracles Academie. The move brought no transfer fee — Twente developed him from academy level all the way through to the professional game, and he signed his first professional contract with the club, running until 2027.

He made his professional debut for FC Twente in January 2025, becoming the latest product of a pathway that has kept him inside the same club structure since his earliest years in the sport.

At youth international level, Vennegoor of Hesselink has represented the Netherlands, and last summer he was part of the Dutch under-19 squad that won the European Under-19 Championship in Romania. He scored in the group stage against England during that tournament, though in the final against Spain, which the Netherlands won 1–0, he remained an unused substitute. He has not yet featured for the senior Netherlands side.
