Mats Deijl

Mats Deijl's career was built at FC Den Bosch, where he made his professional debut in December 2016, went on to captain the side, and racked up 108 Eerste Divisie appearances before leaving on a free transfer in June 2021.

His signature moment came in the 2024–25 KNVB Cup. Facing AZ Alkmaar, Deijl scored the equalising penalty deep into extra time to keep the tie alive, then stepped up again to convert the first spot-kick in the shootout that decided the cup. It was the achievement that defined his time at Go Ahead Eagles and set up his move to Feyenoord, which followed on 24 January 2026 for a fee of around €1.0 million.

At international level, Deijl explored the possibility of representing Malaysia, but FIFA rejected his eligibility claim in 2024, ruling that his ancestral connection — through a great-grandparent — did not meet the required threshold.

Since arriving at Feyenoord, Deijl has settled into a rotation role rather than an automatic starting spot, with 16 appearances so far — 15 in the Eredivisie and one in the Champions League — without a goal but with two assists. His average rating has dipped slightly between the two seasons, from 6.8 in 2025/26 to 6.1 so far in 2026/27.
