About the player
Michel Ludwig came through two of German football's biggest academies before landing in the Netherlands. Born in Itzehoe, he started out at FC St. Pauli and moved on to Borussia Dortmund in 2018, spending five years in the club's youth system. With Dortmund's under-19 side he won the Bundesliga West title in the 2021/22 season, and over two campaigns he played in the UEFA Youth League against opponents such as Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
In July 2023, with his contract at Dortmund at an end, Ludwig signed for Helmond Sport on a free transfer. He settled quickly into Eerste Divisie football, making 26 appearances in his first season.
The following season did not go to plan. An injury picked up in a pre-season friendly in July 2024 disrupted his campaign before it had properly started, and he was restricted to just two substitute appearances for the rest of the 2024/25 season, without a goal or an assist to show for it.
Ludwig has also worn Germany's colours at youth international level, capped once for the under-15s and twice for the under-16s, though he has not scored at either level and has not featured for the under-17s or above.
