About the player
Mvisho Mhango came through the Ascent Soccer Academy in Lilongwe, spending four years there before Hannover 96 signed him in 2025. Because of FIFA rules on non-EU minors, the professional contract could only be signed on his 18th birthday, so he joined the club early for a three-month integration phase, living at the academy boarding school and training alongside the professional squad. The move was completed as a free transfer, and once his contract began he was tied to Hannover 96 until 2030. He became eligible to play competitive first-team football in January 2026.
His breakthrough came with Malawi's youth sides. He was the outstanding player of the 2025 COSAFA U-20 Championship in Windhoek, where he scored five goals, including braces against Zimbabwe and Zambia. Malawi reached the final before losing to South Africa, but Mhango left the tournament with the Golden Boot, the Player of the Tournament award and a place in the Best XI, while his side also picked up the Fair Play award.
He made his senior international debut for Malawi in a goalless draw against Zambia at the Four Nations Football Tournament.
