About the player
Waterford handed Orion Kala his shirt number, 42, before he had kicked a ball for the senior side. Kala arrived at the academy in 2022 from Park Rangers AFC and worked his way through the youth grades as a striker. Whatever the label, the numbers at youth level pointed one way: a hat-trick for the under-15s against Limerick FC in August 2024, then a brace against Cobh Ramblers two months later. Waterford rewarded that form with a professional contract in May 2025.
His breakthrough with the first team came in a pre-season friendly against Cobh Ramblers in January 2026, when he scored his first senior goal — a left-footed effort from 25 yards.
Kala has also featured for Ireland at youth international level. He remains, for now, a player defined more by what he has done in age-grade and pre-season football than in competitive senior matches.
