P. Hickey

Patrick Hickey's route to Irish football began not on a local pitch but in Spain, where he signed for CD Herbania after leaving college in the United States. A move to Villanueva CF followed a year later, before he crossed to the League of Ireland in July 2022 with Athlone Town, the club where his career started to take shape.

Hickey spent a season and a half at Athlone Town before joining Galway United in January 2024. It was there, in August of that year, that he was named SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month. Neither Athlone Town nor Galway United won a league title or FAI Cup during his time with them, but his individual form kept drawing attention through two full seasons on the west coast.

That form carried him to Bohemians in January 2026 on a free transfer, and he settled quickly: by March he had already picked up a Player of the Month award with his new club. At 198cm, he is an imposing physical presence at the back.

Hickey, born in Des Plaines, Illinois, has not been capped by the United States at any level, senior or youth. His career so far has been built entirely in club football, first in Spain's lower tiers and now in Ireland, where he has gone from a free-transfer arrival to an award winner at successive clubs.
