About the player
Rik Suur has spent his entire development at Sparta Rotterdam, having joined the club's academy at the age of eight after a brief spell at partner club MSV De Betrokken Spartaan. The path was not smooth: at 13 he suffered a serious injury that kept him off the pitch for roughly three and a half years.
Suur worked his way back, and in 2024, at 17, he made his debut for Jong Sparta Rotterdam in the Tweede Divisie, becoming the youngest goalkeeper ever to play for the reserve side. In May 2026, at 19, he signed his first professional contract, tying him to Sparta Rotterdam until the summer of 2028 with an option for a further season. Sparta have not yet handed him a first-team Eredivisie debut, but the contract marked formal recognition of the progress he had made since returning from injury.
Right-footed, Suur wears the number 30 shirt for the club where he has spent his whole career to date, with no transfer fees ever involved in his footballing journey. He is yet to be capped by the Netherlands at youth international level.
