About the player
Ajax's academy shaped most of Roy Steur's teenage years. He joined the Amsterdam club in 2015 after coming through Volendam's own youth ranks at RKAV Volendam, and stayed for six seasons without ever making the step up to the first team.
The move that followed was significant. In 2021 Steur left for Bayer Leverkusen's youth setup on a free transfer, still without a senior appearance to his name. Eighteen months later, PSV paid around €100,000 to sign him from the German club.
At PSV, Steur's football stayed almost entirely with the reserves, Jong PSV, in the Eerste Divisie. Over three seasons there he made just 12 appearances.
He was capped at various youth levels for the Netherlands, from the under-15s through to the under-19s, without a senior call-up following.
On 9 July 2025, Steur returned to where he started. Volendam signed him as a free agent on a three-year contract running to June 2028, bringing his career back to the club where he first learned the position as a boy.
