Sergio Quintero

Sergio Quintero arrived at Emelec as a free agent in June 2025.

Quintero came through the academies of Cumbayá and Imbabura before turning professional in 2020 with Barcelona in Guayaquil, where he won the Ecuadorian Serie A title in his first year as a senior player. Loan spells followed at Olmedo in 2021 and at Portuguese side Sporting Covilhã in 2022, moves that took him away from the Ecuadorian top flight and gave him experience of European football. He returned home in 2023, joining Aucas before a further loan to Mushuc Runa the same year.

Before any of that, Quintero had already made his mark internationally. He was part of the Ecuador under-20 squad that won the South American under-20 championship in 2019, a campaign in which he scored once, and he went on to play at that year's Under-20 World Cup.

Now established as a defensive midfielder at Emelec, Quintero has built his career on a mix of steady progression through Ecuadorian clubs and spells abroad.
