About the player
Stephen McMullan made his professional debut for Fleetwood Town on 23 April 2023, keeping a clean sheet in a 1–0 win over Milton Keynes Dons in EFL League One. Before that, the Armagh-born goalkeeper had come through Woodview Celtic and a brief 2019 stint in the Dundalk academy, then joined Warrenpoint Town at just 14 years old, working his way up to a senior debut in January 2022 in a 1–0 defeat to Crusaders in the NIFL Premiership. Three years later he signed for Fleetwood.
His path since has run largely through loan spells. A season at Caernarfon Town from July 2024 gave him regular first-team football, and in January 2025 he moved to Waterford, making his debut on 15 February with a penalty save in the 58th minute as Waterford won 3–2 away at Sligo Rovers. He went on to make 39 appearances during that loan before returning to Fleetwood. Waterford brought him back on a second loan deal in December 2025.
McMullan has represented Northern Ireland at U18, U19 and U21 level, and stepped up to the senior squad for the first time in November 2023 for Euro 2024 qualifiers against Denmark and Finland, though he remained an unused substitute. Further call-ups followed in March 2024 and September 2025, but he is still waiting for his first senior cap.
