About the player
Wu Yongqiang came through the Evergrande Football School, where head coach Salvador had been working with him since the age of twelve. That grounding paid off in July 2023, when Guangzhou FC promoted him to the first team. His debut season brought only four appearances in China League One, making 25 appearances and scoring four goals, including his first senior goal against Wuxi Wugo in April of that year.
In January 2025, Wu moved to Chongqing Tongliang Long as a free agent. The switch coincided with the club's title-winning campaign: he made 21 league appearances that season, scoring twice and setting up two further goals, as Chongqing Tongliang Long won the China League One title and secured promotion to the Chinese Super League. He also featured once in the FA Cup that year.
He has carried that form into the top flight. In the 2026 Chinese Super League season, Wu has made 12 appearances, scoring once and providing three assists, along with a further FA Cup appearance.
