About the player
Yushi Shimamura's route to Kazakhstan ran through Argentina and Slovakia before he ever kicked a ball in the Kazakhstan Premier League. Born in Tokyo, he left Tokyo Kurume High School in January 2018 to join the youth ranks of Newell's Old Boys, where he stayed with the under-23 side until 2021. From there he moved to Slovak second-tier football, signing for ŠK Tvrdošín, where he scored five goals in 11 appearances. That form led to a move to MFK Zemplín Michalovce in early 2022, initially on loan before it was made permanent later that year. He stayed at Michalovce for four years, making around 64 league appearances. In March 2026, Shimamura joined Irtysh Pavlodar on a free transfer, signing a contract until the end of the year. He made 21 league appearances for his new club and scored twice, against Altai on 4 April and against Kaspiy on 1 August. He has also featured in the Kazakhstan Cup, including a 3-0 win over SD Family in April. Community sources describe him as left-footed, a detail not confirmed in official statistics, and he wears the number 6 shirt for Irtysh in midfield.
