Ivan Trichkovski arrived in Larnaca in 2016 and stayed eight years.

The club he joined was younger than most of its opponents. Two Larnaca sides, EPA Larnaca and Pezoporikos, merged in 1994, and the new name reached back much further than either of them: AEK stands for Athletiki Enosi Kition, Kition being the ancient name of the town. In three decades the merged club has not won the championship — six second-place finishes and no more.

The 2022–23 season took the club somewhere it had never been.

Home since 2016 is the AEK Arena – Georgios Karapatakis, an 8,058-seat ground that Cyprus also use for internationals.

The fiercest afternoons come against APOP Paphos. Beyond that there is Anorthosis Famagusta, and the two Nicosia sides, Omonia and APOEL, whose visits measure how far the yellow-greens have come since the merger.
