The club traces back to 1972, though an account from Ahmed Sultan Al Jabr in Al Bayan Sports pushes the story further, describing a merger of two Umm Al Quwain sides, Al Ittihad and Al Nahda, in the 1960s that eventually took the Al Arabi name. Between 2009 and 2012 the club dropped into the third division before working its way back to Division 1.

Al Dhaid, Al Hamriyah and Emirates Club RAK provide the more regular Division 1 opposition.

Home games are played in front of 3,000 supporters at most in Umm Al Quwain, the club turning out in all blue at home and all white away.

Few names from Al Arabi's history have travelled beyond Umm Al Quwain.
