The TVF Atatürk Voleybol Salonu Sigorta Shop Arena, in the Alsancak district of İzmir, dates back to the 1971 Mediterranean Games and was rebuilt by the Turkish Volleyball Federation in 2012, when it took on its present 6,000-seat form.

The club itself grew out of a school team: İzmir Tevfik Fikret Lisesi SK, formed in 1999 and named for the college that ran it. The link to the school stayed in the name through two more changes, first to TFL Altekma SK in 2010, then, from the 2020-21 season, to the shorter Altekma SK it carries now.

The pandemic gave the club its first taste of the Efeler Ligi in 2019-20, when the 1. Lig final group went unplayed and Altekma were promoted without a decider on court. That route back down followed, but in 2023-24 they won the 1. Lig outright and returned to the top flight on merit, a result still credited in İzmir to honorary president Hulusi Durmuş.

Two seasons later the club reached further than it ever had in Europe. In the 2025-26 CEV Challenge Cup, Altekma got through to the semi-finals before Allianz Milano beat them home and away, leaving the İzmir side with the bronze medal and a first continental campaign to speak of at all.
